What is a Doctor Of Chiropractic

Meet The Team

Dr David Bates DC

Doctor of Chiropractic / CEO

It was from a young age that I was first exposed to the chiropractic profession. This was down to my older brother having struggled with persistent back and hip issues that were non-responsive to mainstream medical care. After observing and receiving adjustments myself, my mind was set on one day becoming a chiropractor. I found it fascinating that the human body had an inbuilt intelligence to heal and self regulate without needing to resort to drugs or surgery.

A few years later after leaving school, I enrolled at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in Bournemouth and set out on a five year masters degree in Chiropractic. During these years and especially after graduating, I continued to attend seminars to further my understanding of the human body and how Chiropractic care plays a key role in optimising our health no matter how old we are. I believe that my ability to further help each and every individual is a never-ending learning process, which is why I attend weekly conference calls with Dr Stephen Franson, who has a wealth of experience in our field. I am a registered member of the General Chiropractic Council(GCC) and the United Chiropractic Association (UCA).

After spending a number of years gaining valuable experience working in clinics in the UK, I had an opportunity to work in Singapore and South East Asia with a company called Chiropractic First. Following a very successful two year period in Asia, the time was right to move back to Manchester after the birth of my son. The idea was then born to bring the success of Chiropractic First to the UK.

Away from Chiropractic First my time is spent with my family, as well watching Formula 1 or Football when time allows.

Dr Gopal Handa DC

Doctor of Chiropractic

Being born into a chiropractic family, I recall having my first chiropractic adjustment at the age of 7! This wasn’t because of any symptoms, but instead because of the understanding of the preventative and healing power of Chiropractic and how subtle changes at a young age can reap dividends for a growing child. After growing up under Chiropractic care and seeing the positive and life changing effects on patients, it wasn’t long before I set my heart on becoming a chiropractor too and fast forward ten years I was entering Chiropractic education.

Following 5 years of study and enjoying the Beach at the Prestigious Anglo European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth, I was ready to embark on a chiropractic career myself. Through mentoring and many seminars I gained a great deal of invaluable information. Clinics in London, Essex, Surrey and Cheshire helped to formulate my knowledge and understanding.

Following time in Singapore working under Chiropractic First Group and seeing the amazing effects they produce everyday in their many clinics throughout Asia I decided I too wished to work and bring the same ideas to the UK.

Away from the clinic I enjoy climbing, 5 a side football, Salsa and occasionally community theater.

Natasha Cross

Chiropractic Assistant

Hello, my name is Natasha and I am a Chiropractic Assistant here at Chiropractic First. I’m currently completing a 12 month apprenticeship course and really enjoying it. Originally, I wanted to pursue a career in the legal sector, however after doing law in college for one year I realised that wasn’t for me, so I decided to get into a career which helps people. Before starting here, I knew nothing about what Chiropractic was and how it helps provide us with a perfect functioning spine. The reason why I’m so fascinated by Chiropractic care is that its non-invasive drug free natural care using hands on treatment. Everyone here at Chiropractic First, staff and patients are so lovely and welcoming. It’s just like one big family and that’s why I’m so excited to see what the future brings.

Hi, I’m Bethan and I’m a Chiropractic Assistant for Chiropractic First Manchester. I’m an animal loving Yogi who grew up in the heart of Manchester. During my education I predominantly studied Sciences, a subject I loved. After College, I decided to pursue my artistic route and studied Special Effects at the University of Bolton. After completeing my degree, I decided to change my path once again. I was looking for a career in Healthcare which enabled me to fulfil my childhood dream to work with and progress my knowledge of the human body. When the opportunity to become a Chiropractic Assistant arrose, I was very excited. The reason I am passionate about Chiropractic Care is because it is a Natural, Drug-Free and Non-Invasive form of care which promotes the bodies ability to heal itself. That alone makes me very proud to be a member of this Team.

Hannah Law

Chiropractic Assistant

Hi, I’m Hannah. I’m one of the Chiropractic Assistants here in Manchester. I first heard about Chiropractic when I was 12, when my mum’s friend at work started training to become a Chiropractor. Emma treated our whole family, and she made a massive impact on the health us all. Emma, based in Kent with most of my relatives, has just started treating my son (who will be 3 in January) because I’ve learned the importance of preventative care since starting work here at the clinic.
When I was pregnant with my son, I developed serious pelvic girdle pain (or SPD as it’s sometimes known) and Chiropractic was the treatment that kept me on my feet. I saw so many different professionals but getting regular adjustments is what keeps me able to move and live the life I want to lead.
Having the honour of working alongside two extremely talented Doctors to help all kinds of patients has been a fantastic experience so far, and I’m always excited to come to work! I love being able to watch our patients progress through their care and I am so grateful that I get to be a part of their journey back towards health.

Dr Michael Bates DC

Doctor of Chiropractic

My passion for chiropractic evolved through both my sporting activity and the long-standing drive to help others. Through my love of the outdoors and playing sport, I have always been interested in exercise and healthy eating.
However, following a significant injury from a skiing accident, I came to realise there was something missing from my health equation. I could no longer perform to the best of my ability, and I would regularly experience episodes of pain. I could not understand why my body could not heal itself. I was told at 18 years old that I should stop playing sport and skiing.
Chiropractic allowed me to return to full contact sport and to ski better than ever! I felt fitter, faster and stronger. I experienced far fewer injuries, and if I did sustain an injury my body would heal itself in a much shorter time span.
I realised that if an 18-year-old could be told to stop doing the things they loved at such a young age, imagine what people in their later years were being told. So, my drive became to help people of all ages to get to their best, and stay at their best for the rest of their lives.
In my spare time I try to ski as regularly as possible, and have recently taken up rock climbing. I also enjoy travelling and sampling different cultures from around the world.

Dr Marek Magnowski DC

Doctor of Chiropractic

“My journey with chiropractic care started as it would with many of my patients: I suffered with lower back pain, that I got used to over the years. I was working in warehouse, and many of my co-workers suffered with similar problem which made me believe that pain is something that is normal and to be expected with this kind of job and gym routine. Now I know how wrong I was!
As most life changing stories begin, so did mine, when one day I was recommended to try chiropractic care by a new colleague. It was the first time I heard about it, but since I had never believed in medications, I decided to give it a try. Within a few weeks I felt so much better that I couldn’t even remember the last time I felt that freedom of movement.
Furthermore, a problem I had with my bladder since very young age had been resolved as well. And that was what made me question: how does the chiropractic adjustment really work, if not only my pain has been resolved, but also my organ has finally begun to function as it should have been?
I think many of us have that idea deep inside us to change the world for better. For me chiropractic care become the way to do it, to help people, as it helped me. An interest became a job, a job became a hobby, a hobby became a way of life. And although I do enjoy traveling, gym, reading books and playing computer games, every day I read or listen to somebody talking about chiropractic and its potential to change life. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Rebecca Pryke

Chiropractic Assistant

“Hello, I’m Becky one of the Chiropractic Assistants from Chiropractic First Leeds. I love to travel and have made it my goal to visit at least 3 different countries a year to experience different cultures around the world. This year I will be visiting Greece, India and Holland. I left college to persue being a Trainee Dental Nurse and unfortunately I realised that I cannot work well with the gory side of things. So I decided to persue a career where I would still get to chat to people and be in a friendly environment so I was a waitress for a year. I loved every minute of being a waitress however I have always wanted to work in healthcare industry as I believe its the best industry that if you put everything into, you get the best out of it. Chiropractic First has enabled me to-do just that. I never realised how passionate I could be to be about my job and how passionate Dr. Michael Bates is. Seeing people progress in a natural and drug-free care… I find it amazing. I wouldn’t change my job I love helping people on the journey through chiropractic care.”

Bethany Brear

Chiropractic Assistant

‘Hi my name is Beth and I am one of the Chiropractic Assistants in the Leeds clinic. My passion is Ice Skating which I have been doing for the past seven years, I have taken part in national competitions competing against other skaters from all over the country, placing in the top three in my category. The sport has taught me determination and that success comes through hard work, it has also given me confidence and the drive to give it my best in every situation, whilst being humble and considering others before myself. This is why I perused my visit to Ethiopia in the year 2016, as a team we carried out various fundraising activities and challenges that allowed us to exceed our initial fundraising goal enabling us to provide a larger donation for the charities out there, we then visited these charities and got to experience the challenging work that goes on to support others and the community. The role of being a Chiropractic Assistant stood out to me because I have always valued the health Care profession and the ability to help and support others, which is something I value deeply. In addition, this job is very rewarding, working in such a friendly environment and with a driven team of individuals, plus being part of a patients recovery makes this position truly worthwhile.’

Miss Amaali

Chiropractic Assistant

Hi my name is Miss Amaali, but everyone calls me Amaali. I have recently joined the Birmingham Clinic as a Chiropractic Assistant and am very excited to be a part of a team that provides and promotes natural health and wellbeing. I was born in the UK, but lived mostly in the USA and Jamaica. While culturally different countries, the common thread for me was the organic living and I always found myself drawn to the holistic side of healthcare. This led me to pursue a degree in Psychology and later, another in Music…What this taught me, is there is a mind-body connection and when there is misalignment, Chiropractic treatments are offer great resolutions.
I have been both a Chiropractic client and an assistant, so I can relate and I honestly recommend it. For me it is essential maintenance along with making natural, organic soaps, singing, poetry and travelling. I feel all my experiences have led me to exactly where I am currently, Chiropractic First.

Dr Imran Shah DC

Doctor of Chiropractic

My journey to chiropractic began after being a keen tennis and cricket player where I noticed injuries affecting my level of performance. These were diagnosed as “growing pains” at the time and only after a visit to a chiropractor that I realised my problems were actually related to my spine and he looked at things biomechanically rather than just trying to ‘fix’ the symptoms. Not only was I able to return to a high level of performance (representing my University at tennis) but it made me realise how powerful the chiropractic adjustment can be in helping my nervous system function efficiently.
I went on to study a four year master’s degree at the WeshInsititute of Chiropractic (WIOC) in South Wales after initially completing my biomedical material science BMedSc (Hons) at the University of Birmingham. Following graduation, I have gained experience working with professional athletes in an acute Sports injury clinic in a multidisciplinary team consisting of (Osteopath, physiotherapist and podiatrist). I then went on to specialise in Chiropractic care which taught me the importance of prevention and maintaining optimum health. I have also done locum work in London which has helped me treat a wide variety of muscular skeletal conditions. I am a registered member of the GCC (General chiropractic council) and the British Chiropractic Association (BCA).
I have recently spent time observing a clinic in Dubai and in Singapore working under the Chiropractic First Group witnessing some of the great results they have working with families and people of all ages.
My personal interests include playing tennis regularly and competing in the Warwickshire leagues for my club, functional rehabilitation, strengthening and conditioning and giving my patients nutritional advice where necessary.
