Have a good posture when standing or sitting. Sleep in a good position at night and avoid using stiff pillows. If you smoke, quit. Also, avoid carrying around heavy bags on your shoulder, this weighs your shoulder and neck down which will then lead to a stiff neck.

There are lots of neck pain treatments that are recommended to try. Heat therapy or ice packs, stretching the muscle gently and see a chiropractor are the most common. You can also get a massage to relieve the pain. If any of these do not work, Ibuprofen is a pain relief tablet that will help.
