What is a Doctor of Chiropractor?
An accomplished professional
Today’s Doctors of Chiropractic are well educated.
After completing the same undergraduate study as other types of doctor’s do, Doctors of Chiropractic receive another four years of postgraduate university education.
All Doctors of Chiropractic in the UK have to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) before practicing. They pass a rigorous National Board Examination and meet stringent licensing requirements. To keep up with the latest research and maintain their registration with the GCC doctors of chiropractic have to complete 50 hours continued professional development per year.
Although Chiropractors use the term ‘Doctor of Chiropractic’ (DC) this tends to be a courtesy title and in no way assumes that the Doctor of Chiropractic holds a general medical qualification
A closer look
After taking a complete case history to review important aspects of your health, a thorough examination will be conducted.
You may be asked to turn and bend, your posture will be checked, your reflexes and muscle strength may be tested, and other orthopaedic and neurological tests may be performed. These tests aim to show any areas of your spine that may cause problems.
If indicated we may recommend the use of x-rays which can be taken within our clinic.
Based on examination findings, X-rays or other types of diagnostic imaging may be necessary. These images can help reveal pathologies, document the history of your spine, and guide your Doctor of Chiropractic in creating a care programme based on your unique spinal condition. Today’s high-tech equipment and ultra-sensitive films help minimise your exposure.
